Winter Properties renovated this property, which dates back to the early
1900s, in 1990. It is located just minutes from Midtown and downtown
Atlanta. The office lofts are the anchor for development in this area
currently known as the Means Street District and are located one block
west of the Georgia Institute of Technology’s campus.
Skeptics existed at the beginning of this project, but Winter held to
its vision of transforming a “dead” area of town into a thriving
community. The vision is now a reality and the success of the project is
evident in the long tenant waiting list.
The loft offices at Carriage Works have large open floor plans that meet
the diverse needs of hi-tech companies. The building’s interior offers
tenants a unique urban atmosphere, featuring 14 ft. ceilings, exposed
red brick and heavy wood timbers throughout. The electrical and
mechanical systems are all exposed. Large windows, approximately 4¢ X
6¢, are located throughout the building projecting a bright, airy
feeling.
In May 1992, The Carriage Works received the Best Community Impact Award
for renovation/rehabilitation. This award was given by Ernst & Young and
the Atlanta Business Chronicle for Best Real Estate deals of 1991. The
Carriage Works is listed on the National Register of Historic places.
